Formula: monthly interest = investment × annual rate ÷ 12. The monthly amount is rounded to the nearest rupee, consistent with the scheme rules. The monthly interest is not added back to the account, so there is no compounding. The normal maturity period is 5 years.
The current rate is reviewed by the Government for each small-savings quarter. POMIS deposits are capped at ₹9 lakh for a single account and ₹15 lakh for a joint account. Premature closure is permitted after 1 year, subject to the scheme's applicable deduction. Interest is taxable income; this calculator does not calculate income tax. Sources:
